NEW CARLISLE - The New Carlisle Newts will commemorate the 15th anniversary of the franchise's inception in 2007 with a special Mixtape Edition jersey for The Wiffle®Ball Championship 2022.
The Mixtape Edition is a compilation of the team's most memorable moments throughout the years. The jersey's intricate details tell the story of one of most iconic franchises in wiffleball history.
The Newts have worn 22 different uniforms over the past decade and a half, and this year's Mixtape Edition weaves elements from many of those looks into one jersey. Here are some of the design highlights:
The Spot Pattern - A key feature of the Hometown Days jerseys from 2015-2018, the shoulder spot pattern aims to recreate the body of a newt.
Chest Number - Originally making their debut at the 2009 night series, the orange home jerseys that were worn through 2011 featured a player number on the upper chest.
Script Newts - The defining signature of the franchise for much of its early history, "Newts - in perfect cursive!" was worn across the front of the home white jerseys from 2012 through 2015. The script was also featured on the 2013 and 2014 Hometown Days Sunday black jerseys.
Old Republic Sleeves - The shape of the Old Republic makes up the sleeve design of the jersey, a nod to the franchise's status as a charter member of ORWBL and also to the 2021 lime green jerseys worn both at Hometown Days and when the Newts captured the World Wiffleball Championship.
Skyline Ball - The team's primary mark (in some form) from 2009 through 2017, the skyline wiffleball logo is featured on the left sleeve. The logo appeared on the home whites from 2012-2015, the Hometown Days green in 2013, and an orange alternate in 2015.
"Frog-face" Newt - The most recognizable and enduring symbol of the club, the newt face logo appears on the right sleeve of the Mixtape jersey. The team's secondary mark was first introduced on the road gray jerseys that were worn from 2012 through 2015.
Football Stripes - The side panels of the Mixtape Jersey feature orange football-style stripes, evoking the look of the Newts' Snow Football League jerseys, which were worn as the Sunday blacks in 2008.
"Dino" Newt - The 90's are still alive as the popular dinosaur inspired from the 2019 teal jersey returns as the oversized front logo. The newt is wearing a recreation of the Newts original 2007 jersey.
Migley Marquee - The back nameplate design is a recreation of the famous Migley Field marquee, the highlight of the 2020 Hometown Days jersey. The Boulder font used for the player name and number matches the Newts primary font from 2015 through 2021.
Champions of Wiffleball 2018 - The color pattern, front skyline silhouette, and back primary logo give the jersey the overall look and feel of the 2018 Hometown Days jersey, when the Newts won The Cup. The jersey also features a small silver tab on the back collar denoting the Newts as three-time Champions of Wiffleball.
The Mixtape Edition jersey will be worn exclusively at Hometown Days in 2022. The Newts have not yet unveiled their roster for the tournament.
