NEW CARLISLE - Earlier this week, Major League Baseball announced that nine of its clubs will debut new City Connect uniforms in 2024.
Today, the New Carlisle Newts have unveiled plans to bring that trend to the Old Republic Wiffle® Ball League (ORWBL) as well.
The MLB City Connect Series, started in 2021, is intended to honor each city's "history, culture and spirit that continues to bring the clubs and their communities together."
In the wiffle world, there is no better place to celebrate that connection than New Carlisle. Matching the Newts, the foremost franchise in jersey design, with the town's vibrant history is a home run you'd only see with the wind howling out of Migley Field.
New Carlisle's City Connect theme is inspired by downtown's status on the National Register of Historic Places. The "New Carlisle" script across the front of the jersey is drawn from the wooden welcome sign outside the viaduct. The sleeve logo also pulls from the sign, with the familiar "National Register of Historic Places" shield.
The back of the jersey features a depiction of the town clock, which is located in front of the Town Hall on Michigan Street. The player's name will replace the "New Carlisle" arched over their number inside a wiffleball (instead of a clock face).
The uniform is trimmed on the neck and sleeves with a representation of the decorative cornice which adorns the top of most of the historic district's buildings.
The Newts will wear the City Connect jerseys for select regular season games during the 2024 ORWBL season and will also add them to the tournament rotation. A full uniform schedule will be announced once the league schedule is finalized.
